You are eligible to apply for a Open work permit if you are one among the following:
- The spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner living in Canada who is being sponsored for permanent residence
- An accompanying dependent child of the principal applicants
- An international student graduated from a designated learning institution and is eligible for the PGWP program.
- Student who is no longer able to meet the costs of their studies
- Have an employer specific work permit and are being abused or at risk of being abused in connection with your job in Canada.
- Dependent family members of someone who applied for permanent residence.
- The spouse or common- law partner or dependent child of a low or high skilled worker
- The spouse or common-law partner of applicant of an international student
- The spouse or common-law partner of applicant of an applicant of the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
- Refugee, refugee claimant, protected person or their family member
- Under an unenforceable removal order
- Temporary resident permit holder
- Young worker participating in special programs
There are very few restrictions on Open Work permits, mostly which are related to the type of job you hold like requirement of a medical exam to work in some jobs and the locations you can work such as open work permits issued under provincial nomination programs will be limited to work in the specific province or territory.
