Pathway to sponsor your relatives which includes but not limited to your spouse, partner, children, parents and grandparents. Being at least 18 years old you can sponsor your relatives to become permanent residents of Canada so that they become entitled to live, study and work in Canada.
Who can you Sponsor?
Spouse, Partner or Dependent Children: If you can support your family financially and ensure they do not require any social assistance from the government, you can sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent children and they can become permanent residents of Canada. For this you should be at least 18 years of age, Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada. Being any of the above mentioned category who lives outside Canada, you are required to show your plan to live in Canada when the sponsored persons are living in Canada. Being a permanent resident living outside Canada you can’t sponsor anyone.
You will also need to prove that you are not receiving any social assistance for any other reason than disability. You should also be able to provide for any basic needs of the persons you wish to sponsor. In most of the cases you are not required to establish your financial stability or income to sponsor your spouse or dependent child. It is a requirement only if you are sponsoring a child with 1 or more dependent children of their own or sponsoring a spouse or partner with a dependent child and their dependent child has 1 or more children.
Adopted Child: In this category you are required to undergo two processes from another country. First there should be an application done for sponsorship and thereafter the application for the child to be a permanent resident. Once your child arrives in Canada you have an option to apply on their behalf to become a Citizen, only that all adoption formalities are to be finalized.
To be eligible for this you should either be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident residing in Canada or at the time when the adopted child becomes a permanent resident and at least 18 years old. The sponsorship will only happen if informed consent has been given by the child’s both biological parents or has been adopted legally or requirements as per Hague Convention has been met. The adopted child should undergo a complete medical exam before being admitted as a permanent resident.
Relatives: By making sure that you are capable of supporting your relatives financially when they arrive and meet their requirements such as food, shelter, clothing and doesn’t require social assistance, and being a Canadian Citizen, Permanent resident or registered under Canadian Indian Act you are entitled to apply for relatives’ sponsorship.
This application is a possibility only if you meet income guidelines, agree in writing to provide financial support to the eligible relatives from the day they become permanent residents for up to 20 years depending on their age and the relationship you hold with them. There should also be an agreement from the relatives’ side stating that they will make every effort to support themselves. This even includes any sponsored dependent child 18 or older. Children under the age of 19 who are dependent will not require this declaration.
Parents and Grandparents: To apply for the sponsorship of your parents or grandparents you should have submitted the interest to sponsor form in 2020 and if you are invited to apply for 2023 intake. You get an invitation if you submit a sponsorship application or permanent resident application. On the approval of the applications you will be required to sign an agreement called as an undertaking that starts from the day they become a permanent resident of Canada.
The eligibility of this sponsorship is for Canadian Citizens parents, Permanent Residents parents or people registered under Canadian Indian Act and living in Canada with 18 or above of age. You should be invited to apply and have enough money to support the people who you wish to sponsor stated as per the proofs to prove your income, you may have a spouse or common- law partner who can co-sign. This will support the application to combine your incomes. Guidelines under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations are to be met for the application.
